Charlie Horse Is pleased to present Sylvain Flanagan in a two night sound projection and light installation.
Sylvain Flanagan is a french artist based in Brooklyn. He has showed in the US, Europe and Japan in various galleries and institutions including Anthology Film Archives, Galapagos Art Space, Sensei Gallery, Grace Space, Galerie Eric Dupont, Hopital Ephemere and the Museum of Contemporary Art of the City of Paris.

The artist:
"I discovered one thing in my late teens while observing a person who, for example, seems unfriendly or has an attitude and that also presents a strong facial expression, like very tights lips, some position of the chin,.... I found out that I could, or it seemed that I could, get an insight of that person’s inner world by mimicking her or his facial expression.
Not unrelated to that I am interested in transformations, whether these happen inside myself - vocal improvisations for example - or outside - manipulations of two dimensional images, whether these are improvised into something or are spontaneous and stand on their own.
I first explored these transformations by improvising with vocals and still images. Then I combined the two by edited the sounds and images in a time based installations where the images were projected with slides and synchronized with the audio.
I recently began to include lights in some installations to extend the language possibilities that emerge out of the combinations of three kinds of signals rather than two. "
